Soundtrack Pro has a pencil tool designed just for sample-accurate editing. So it does exactly what you're looking for. (Sound Forge has this ability; I didn't realize Audition doesn't -- annoying!)

Symbiotic, really good question. I think Sound Forge remains my choice on the PC, though I need to upgrade to v8 from v7. A Sound Forge - Soundtrack shootout would be fun.

peter,

i'd be well appreciative if you'd share a detail about sample-accurate editing. what tools are availalable at this level of detail?

my current editor of choice, audition {formerly cool edit pro}, lacks a pencil tool at the sample level, so you can't just draw a line to smooth out a spike { a la wavelab} - you have to grab each individual sample and shift it up or down. yuk!

please tell us soundtrack pro does it better...

thanks.

Peter - I'd be interested in your (expanded) thoughts on STP vs. SF on the PC. I'm in the market for a good editor, and will have a new PC in a matter of weeks. I'm leaning toward SF at the moment, but I might be persuaded to check out STP instead. Your thoughts?
