I would at least expect Apple to make an announcement of their Intel roadmap at Macworld Expo (meaning they might just TELL us when the new Macs are coming), but until then I think it's anyone's guess when we'll see Intel iMacs. Anyway, I stand by my advice; if Apple ships even better iMacs in January, all the better! (And sure, if you're nervous, wait around for Macworld and see.)

Very good chance of new Intel powered iMac's coming out in a few weeks... I would wait until after Macworld before buying an iMac at this date...

I have an iMac. It's a 17" Revision B (not the one with the iSight etc.) 1.8 ghz. I play around with Ableton Live and it seems to do pretty well. My only complaint is that on this version the fans rev up kinda loud when running most music programs. I'm not sure if this was corrected in the most recent revision of the iMac, but just keep that in mind.

I've gone through a number of small controllers (Oxygen 8, Edirol, etc) and decided to give the Novation ReMOTE 25 a shot about six months ago.

My overall impression? Probably the best of the bunch of low-cost, smaller controllers. The knobs are a bit tighter, the faders as well, and the LCD is nice and bright. It also has a bit more overall "weight" to it, so it feels a bit more like an instrument.

There are a couple of things I dislike about it - first, my iBook's USB ports won't power it, meaning that I either have to run off of batteries or a power supply when away from the studio (the powered USB hub does fine), and it comes with these ridiculous paper templates to place around the buttons to label things. To me, it makes it look a little cheap.

But, overall, I love the keys, the joystick, the trackpad especially, and it's definitely been a joy to play live.
