DIY Guitar Hero: USB Controller Made from Toy Guitar

James Carey, games editor for the UK’s PC Format magazine, ripped the guts out of a toy guitar and built it into his very own USB guitar controller:

Frets on Fire [PC Format Blog]
Via The Guardian Gamesblog (Thanks to Guitar and Gaming Hero Chris from Pixelsumo)

The results look fantastic: it’s an instant USB controller you could use not only for, say, Guitar Hero games, but any music or video application. And it’s further proof that sometimes the simplest hack is the best (he appropriated parts from a used joystick). Now if only PC Format would put this on the cover instead of silly shots of female stock footage models. (What is that coy look saying? Come, come into my bedroom and help me get rid of all my spyware?)
