[...] Peter has been busy on CDMu looking at Vista Compatibility. Unfortunately, some of us aren’t on cool PR lists and getting free copies of Vista at product launches, so it might be a while until I setup a Vista system and start testing things out. In the meantime: Bill Gates on the Daily Show. Related: compatibility, drivers, software, videos, vista, Windows & more. 0. By Jaymis. 2007-Feb-01@04:27. [...]

<i>Sounds as though Boot Camp on the MacBook isn’t quite ready to handle it, but when it is, I’ll even give Vista a try in parallel and dual-boot on Intel Mac.</i>

Actually, I had Vista running on my Mac in BootCamp a few months ago, and I know the latest betas of Parallels can handle it now too. It wasn't very interesting to me, so I just deleted it. You shouldn't have to wait to try it out though...

I think operating systems are too big for a one-to-one comparison. But if anywhere could have a non-angry comparison, I'm sure we could do it.

It's also not entirely fair because if you have just one app you love that's exclusive to a platform, you have a reason to deal with whatever annoyances that platform presents. Logic? FL Studio? Then you've got things like Pd that run best on one platform (Linux). But, you know, that's the great thing. Users here are running their machines a LOT harder than the average user. I read about people doing this kneejerk thing where they say "I've switched to Ubuntu! The only app I run is Firefox!" -- or insert any OS, really. I love that people here have much closer relationships with their computers and push it to make stuff while other people just check email.

And on that note, BeOS coverage -- you've got it, I'll print it. (I'm serious.) All the news that's niche, we print.

"I hear not everyone runs Mac OS or Ubuntu"

I just wonder if there has ever been, in the history of man, a conversation in a forum comparing the merits and faults of the big three without someone being angry.

On that note, where's all the BeOS coverage?! >:(

Well, like I said, I'm going to throw caution to the wind and see what happens. Dual-booting the PC I actually own, showing no mercy whatsoever to the loaner laptop and my secondary PC laptop. Taking the first early-adopter arrows so you don't have to. ;)

Extra points for nerdy star-trek reference.

As somone who earns his money by his pc, I won't be upgrading for at least the next few months, and when I do, I will be dual booting with xp for a good while. I'll just pick up another hdd and put it on there until i've decided it's working well for me. I'd suggest a similar path for anyone who *needs* their pc to be working reliably.
