notice how the sliders lag behind his finger and take a while to catch up. almost looks like 2 or 3 inches with the 3d pan demo. plus he had to try a few times to do a two-fingered gestures and even grab the faders sometimes.

never noticed any lag at all in the Jeff Han demos, and the two fingered dragg/scroll/zoom gestures on my notebooks builtin touchpad have never failed either. for the price this thing is, id expect perfection

Ehhh, ... pass.

Ever used the mousepad on a laptop for an extended period of time? Not great for the tips of your fingers.

Shmutz and glare all over that screen. No thanks.

If using a mouse makes you look like you're answering emails then using this makes you look like you're taking an order at McDonalds.

Would you like some fries with that synth patch?

Go for a really expensive gaming mouse instead.

Live 6 on a multi-touch tablet black macbook with osx (iPhone esque) level support would be the killer app for me. nice to see we're slowly moving in this direction though :D

Actually, I think that's Cubase on the right screen. On the left screen it looks like the transport display from Logic, but maybe that's a different machine ... or maybe I can't see anything through this YouTube fuzz. ;)

I'm also on the side of being more interested in unique applications than existing mixer functionality. But in answer to that and the host compatibility questions, I would imagine you're still able to customize interfaces here (I hope so!).

Hmm, seems boring and unnecessary to me. I admit the surround functionality seems to be great, but that's about it. I don't want to have to switch pages just to pan channels or whatever. Plus the surface seems cramped, it even "feels" cramped to me just watching the video. Plus, I like the fact that one can just grab mixer controls on hardware without having to pay attention to what one is looking at––one can concentrate on the sound without fiddling around screen functions. Maybe JazzMutant should have made a discrete surround sound unit with the touchscreen technology. That would have been great, then the product would have been truly distinctive. As it is now it's a glorified mixer with a unique perk. They should have glorified the unique perk and left out the mixer. Seems a waste to me.

I'd like to see some support for "Digital Performer 5" as well. I also wish we'd see some cool "Korg Khaoss Pad" like stuff with this as well ... or is that more of a Lemur thing?

Hi, when you say:

" It’s also interesting to me that the person demoing generally uses only one finger"

My bet is that the demo person is doing this specifically for the film, to allow the camera, thus us, to see what actually is on the screen and not only fingers and hands...

I have tested Dexter in Frankfurt and it feels great. Multitouch is very neat, for example for Aux sends, Surround Pans and EQ and I think Jazzmutant have implemented clever little tricks making use of this feature.

Now I will hunt the web for an announcement of Dexter supporting Live (for live) and Nuendo (for production)...

It would also be nice to be able to turn it into a MIDI controller of sorts. Skimming through the JazzMutant forums you see mentions of it with the Lemur, but I didn't notice anything else. I was just doing a quick flyby, though.

I have to say that I've always been fascinated by the touch surface technology that's available but I was skeptical of the Dexter before seeing this video just because I didn't think it could live up to the price tag it will surely carry, but that looks really fun to work with.

Is that a particular DAW he's working in or is the interface for the Dexter that is on the screen? I'm a Logic user and all I know is that is not Logic. Does the Dexter work directly in your DAW of choice? If I've got Logic on my screen is whatever is there appearing on the screen of the Dexter or is some sort of translation taking place?

I have to say, I'm extremely tempted to start saving the pennies for this thing. Any word on a release date?

Good info, Peter!
