[...] Happily, Rax has now changed hands to another of our favorite small developers, Audiofile Engineering. Their Wave Editor has won over CDM’s game composer / contributor Brent, so we’ll be curious to see how they handle Rax. They’ll be supporting existing customers (few of them as there are out there, I expect there’s a good chance they’re reading this). Their 2.1.0 update is a minor release to bring Rax into the AE fold: [...]

[...] Mac users are hardly high-and-dry when it comes to audio editing. There are other standalone wave editors from which to choose, like the old standby Peak and newer entries like the Audiofile Wave Editor and Adobe’s Soundbooth CS3, which has just started to ship.
I've been a beta tester and avid WE user for a couple of years, and must put in my 2 cents--- this program is awesome, I use it for just about everything, and Matthew and Ev give quick response to technical questions. It's a pleasure working with them!

I wanted to enlighten you guys on what, when and why the Razormaid video tutorials exist. When the boys from WE first approached me as we were the one's that originally molded SDII into the program it went on to become, despite their attention to details, WE was falling way short of what we needed to stop using SDII some 20 years later.

After months of screen shots, actual remixes and even bought them an Audiomedia III card to see what we were doing in SDII... as we approached the final days before WE's release, I flew to Minneapolis for a week to work out the final details.

About two hours before I was to leave for the airport, I realized that I did not have a "guideline" to write the script that would describe all the features for the upcoming DVD training series we were about to create for WE.

I promised Matthew and Ev (the creators) that these impromptu vids would never be seen by anyone, other than myself and my business partner and would be used SOLELY for a reference to write the script only.

Meanwhile, we were of course pushing WE to our 1000+ membership, as it was (and still is) the bomb! As it was taking more time than I realized to do the tech support for our own members, I asked Matthew and Ev if I could place them on our site, as a "backdoor" invitation only training section for WE.

Eventually, more and more people were interested in WE"s "hidden" features, so we opened it up to everyone, in the review I wrote for MacUpdate.com, (under the screen name Razormaid2) here:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18865/wave-editor

Keep in mind, these were not professionally done. Quite the opposite. It was "three guys talking about shit", literally. They were never to be seen by anyone, other than myself, so don't judge them to critically.

We are working on a complete training DVD series, as those vids barely touched the surface of what WE can do. I mean, it just scratches the surface. Wait to you see what it can REALLY do.

Anyone that has any questions for or about WE, feel free to contact me. We have a special Razormaid Setup Installer which will turn WE into the look and feel of SDII, for those of you who liked that design. It also comes with 4 templates for setting up certain windows (playlist/remixing, EQ options, etc...) with the touch of a button.

I can be reached at: razrmaid@aol.com

Good luck guys,

So for those of us who are marooned on the PC, what's the sound editor of choice?

Soundforge seems reasonable, but awkward. Audition I love for the spectral modes, but hate for its clunky approach to sound layering. Soundbooth is a good toy, but a toy. What's left?

@Christophe: thanks. Hopefully I can find users using it. I am afraid it causes trouble. I also have an Echo Indigo IO which I cannot use without the adapter. Mmm... need to think.
