Really informative article on a number of levels... The ability of this Max app "ZoneOut" to ping silent controller signals to Logic plugs is really useful. Anyone know if there is a publically available utility that does the same thing?

While we can't be sure exactly what is responsible for the iPod's success, its user-friendly interface, its superb integration with Apple iTunes, and its killer marketing campaign probably had something to do with it

Yeah I actually had the pleasure of seeing him do his thing live when he was on tour with BT back in December.

A couple of things.

First, this guy is soooo damn cool calm and collected on stage, his whole thing crashed and he was just totally unphased ... launches into a really well told story about being a pop star in the 80's while his tech guy brings it back up ... totally natural. I think I was one of the few in the audience who even noticed that his rig took a crap.

Second, you would just not belive HOW MUCH CRAP this guy has on stage with him ... granted BT had his stuff there too, and they both basically brought the entire studio with them ... including a giant mixing desk (first one I've ever seen actually on stage).

Dolby's show was off the hook. Basically, I'd only known him for "Blinded me with Science" before that show (I was there to see the other guy). The man is a really good songwriter, and just a complete master of technology. If you get a chance to see him on tour, take it, if not get the live album off iTunes.

The video of that performance with Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and Howard Jones is a lot of fun:

It is interesting to hear that he has trained himself to play a bit early to deal with latency. I thought that once you gained a certain level of professional fame, you were granted a magical quantum computer that had no latency in the softsynths.
