[...] Los Angeles readers, Surya Buchwald aka Momo the Monster writes to let us know he’s taking on the Circuit Bending Challenge live and in person, with a workshop. So if you were feeling squeamish about the challenge and want some assistance, this good be a great opportunity. Please help spread the word, wonderful Californians! Join us for our Next Share.LA! October 28th is the Circuit Bending challenge, as posted on Create Digital Music. The challenge is to buy a lo-tech music toy, hack it and document it, and upload the results all in one day! Tell you what - I won’t penalize you for buying your toy early or using one you already have. Never circuit-bent anything before? Don’t know anything about electronics? Great! I’m quite an amateur myself, but I know enough to help you get bending - and I’ve got the tools and parts you need. Directions on the Basswerks site. [...]

We love video.

Maybe Create Digital Motion will have to do the second leg of the challenge.

Or we could have a bending Triathalon... music, video, and ... I don't know, robotics? :)

This article left out the possibility of bending battery-powered video devices, like the My First Sony, the V-Tech Video Painter, and the Crayola Electronic Coloring Book. See you all at Bent Fest.

Yeah, we're playing whack-a-mole with trackback spam. Got some ideas for how we can head it off before you see it. But that was HILARIOUS, and was worth it letting that spamback through just to begin work NOW on a great Christmas gift:

The CDM Workout.

LIFT that Moog modular! And two!

Funneh - the above trackback linking from a bodybuilding blog??? Maybe you should add another few steps like deep breath exercises/pushups...

I'd really like to join the challenge this weekend but I don't think I'll be able to afford any new toys... maybe I'll see what I can 'obtain' from around the house :)

In addition to the forum topic, I'll also post the first result on the main page here, and anyone else can add links in the comments.

All entries will then be added to the post in order recieved, and once the day has expired across the globe, a panel of judges will convene to select our favorites.

As Peter said, bonus points go to creativity on all fronts.

You can post to this thread on the forums:

http://createdigitalnoise.com/viewtopic.php?p=7080#7080

And Flickr photos, Video videos, YouTube etc., etc. are all welcome, of course. You can also email me directly via the contact form on the site if you want to call attention to something especially awesome.

Looking forward to it! Anything with a name like Alpha Balls wins major extra points.

Also, I'd say, don't be afraid to share very basic bends ... part of the whole idea is encouraging first-timers.

Oh man. the NAME of the original gear is sometimes the best part. I'm not trying to be prejudiced, but some of the best names come from when you have cheapo toddler-toys made overseas by manufacturers who don't have the best grasp on language. Some of my favorite toys that I bent included awesome "engrish" names...
...a Simon-like pushbutton alphabet toy called "alpha-balls"
...a boom-box music keychain called the "hip hop maestro"
...a lazer-gun noise-maker called "shoot number one"

oh man. I wish I didn't leave that stuff in on campus.
