I had the pleasure of using Cakewalk DOS 1.0 and bringing it into the South African market place together with Tim Pullen from www.organ-fix.com. Prior to that I had purchased an interface by XRI Systems in London and connected it to my Sinclair ZX81 (16k) computer and had fun but needed something more. It was the best thing that ever happened to me as it changed my life in musical terms in that I was then forced to import the first Prophet 600 into the country which I still own. Cakewalk 1.0 for me was brilliant and I then purchased an XT PC (with amber screen)and used it live on stage with a guitarist doing Rock covers. Everyone wanted to know if I was watching TV whilst playing....20 plus years on I am still using MIDI and enjoying it. Thanks Greg for making my music career a lot more interesting than just playing.

As a drummer-turned-home-studio-buff (wannabe), I've come to that great intersection of life where I have to decide to stay stuck or to get on board. I've acquired Sonar and its steep learning curve in order to develop beyond a DAW I got in Target for fifty bucks. I ran into this interview and the treasures therein when I was investigating one of the "bakers' " side projects, MIDI-OX. (Thanks again, Jamie.) I very much enjoyed learning the rich history around my favorite headache. Thanks so very much to Greg and the bakers for changing the world one keystroke at a time.

Dear Mr.Hendershott
Im very happy with your products I have been a long time cake walk user. but lately I have had trouble with receiving my key code for my Sonar7 Producers edition that I purchased in Aplil of 2008 . The key code that was origanaly gigen to me when I first registered it was lost in a big move and the reason for needing it is that the computer that it was installed on crashed and all was lost and I have found it very difficult to get a response from anybody at Cake walk. this has been going on for 6 months and I would be more than happy to show proof of purchase.
I really hope we can resolve this issue.

Sincerly

Ive used cakewalk live for DOS midi file playback for about 20 years - LOVE IT - but my old win 95 laptops and Midiman Portman arent as dependable any more - is there any equivalent that can run to USB/Midisport interfaces?

I have had CWMC1.00 for approximately seven years and have just recently upgraded my PC. Will "Music Creator [getting started] allow me to mute vocals from a CD track while burning it onto another CD to use as a performance track?
I have a Gateway quad-core with Windows Vista and a sound card.
Thanks for any help.

There are many blind music lovers for whom navigating Windows and other other graphical software is very difficult to handle. Cakewalk for DOS, I believe, might be the obvious alternative. Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain a copy of the old "Cakewalk for DOS"? As a Cakewalk user (sighted) for over 14 years, I'm looking for the old DOS version for a blind friend. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I demoed EVERY program for PC back in 2003, and Cakewalk Sonar was the ONLY one that had ANY sense of intuition.
Spec sheets just don't tell the tale. Logic and Cubase were the most convoluted piles of crap I had ever seen. Ableton is intriguing, but it just looks so "Hello Kitty", and the interface is just as weak/bad as the aforementioned Logic and Cubase.
It's a great product, and I was pleased to see that they've kept the basic operating scheme consistent since version 4.

Interesing to note the contradiction with Hendershott's comments about customer support and the reality. It is all but impossible to get tech support from Cakewalk. They do not have a toll free number and one can wait a very long time on hold while the toll charges are climbing. They simply do not respond to email requests, thus the one post that requests should go through proper channels is bogus. The software may be great, but it's a $500 mistake if it won't work and they won't support it.

Scott Gremillion

I read about your cringing in fear, having trouble with Cakewalk's web site, and not seeing a link to Music Creator. Maybe that link right on the Support header for "Music Creator" is what you're looking for.

Or, okay waitaminnit. This was a joke, right? Some old friend of Greg's pretending to be clueless? Has to be.

Good luck adding those new voice patches to your computer.
