@phi: Not Windows only. Only the DRMed tracks when you purchase. And my guess is the MP3s will eventually take over there. But yeah, that's still a little odd instead of iTunes, which would provide DRM but be cross-platform. Anyway ... I'd rather see no DRM, period.

@edwin: Naw, I think people like having human beings play them songs -- I think that's also what the creators are hoping to get at here, but regardless.

the day is near when a database driven jukebox mixes songs for you based on multiple user input and interactivity. it will take into account a variety of criteria such as BPM, Mood, Genre, etc.
Say goodbye to human DJing and hello to interactive the DJ Jukebox with a virtual DJ selecting and blending tracks. Now when you put your dollar into the machine you won't have to wait two or three hours for the box to play your song at the pub...it'll just be a few verses or choruses away because the virtual DJ in the box knows how long to play tracks for and when to blend out of it (i.e classic newbie DJ mistakes will be eliminated such as cutting off verses and choruses too early)

The reason Pandora can't do this is licensing/legal -- that's what the founders were alluding to with the two different models. But that's only the default license; i.e., if labels and sites can negotiate separately, they can get around it. And I hope the labels see there's a big incentive to do just that. People are very likely, I think, to purchase a burnable mix they like or go buy a whole CD (or electronic album download) having heard a track they love. But they're not going to bother spreading around 30-second previews. So, clearly, there's a way to do this that's more profitable for everyone. I'd love to see the streaming laws fixed, too, but that presents some challenges ...

Hmmmm, interesting idea. The 30-second previews completely turned me off on this tho. It would be great in Pandora could possibly implement this, although I don't see that happening. It will no doubt be interesting to see how this turns out for them.
