i'd like to invite you to visit the forum if you have questions about the cubes :

http://forum.percussa.com/

This week I did an update which lets you play notes using the cube's sensors.

Each face can generate a different note + MIDI CC data for distance after triggering the note.

You can also map the controller data to colours for the cubes.

Feature requests are also welcome.

Best,
Bert

Jeffrey Traer Bernstein (processing guru) has constructed something quite similar which he calls the tangible sequencer. the objects in question trigger each other in a sense which will become apparent when you visit here:

http://www.moogaudio.com/product_info.php?products_id=1182 has them, and is probably the best place to get them in NorthAmerica...but you should probably contact http://percussa.com/index.php?p=contactus for best info.
The software that maps data from the cubes to MIDI is pretty flexible, and improving. Percussa is definitely open to suggestions, too. If you use MaxMSP, you can do *anything* with the data....

These look like they would be really fun to play with, though I wonder how flexible the software is and what kind of information is being fed out frmo teh cubes as they move. Anybody know what the pricing is like? And what the data send options are?

And if you can't afford Percussa Cubes, check out "Boom Blox" for the Wii. There is a level create mode in that game where you can arrange a number of different "melody blocks" (each of which makes a different tone) in a 3-D space (complete with Havoc physics engine) and then interact with them virtually with the Wiimote (by throwing things at them, or "grabbing" them and moving them around).

I haven't gotten to deep into this, but I imagine it's only a matter of time before the videos show up on YouTube for various Boom Blox creation "performances".
