I hope that this level of integration will bring a more stable and intuitive Sonar experience. As a maker of music, I need powerful, easy to use recording tools. Quality, powerful recording tools should be invisible, so the art can shine through. My top quality converters and control surface seem only vaguely acquainted with Sonar 7, much less 8. If it's a good hard/soft ware combination it should stay out of your way and let you do what you're there to do. If this rig is a step in that direction, it is certainly worth the 4000. dollars.

It looks COOL. If there are no major glitches, I hope this thing sticks around for awhile. Looks like someone has finally made a fully integrated control unit that will give us hands-on like we haven't had since the advent of computer studios. What a time/labor saver this will be.

Once a class of products reach a certain point in their development, when all the features work as expected, all the manufacturer can do is cram on gimmicks. It seems to me that audio interfaces and control surfaces have reached this point.

It's an interesting one this, I agree it's pretty audacious and ambitios, particularly when it's tied to one specific DAW package. The control will work with other DAWs, but only in Mackie control mode which means the ACT section and other bits just dont get utilized. I suspect that they have a number of permuations either on the drawing board or in production to fit other needs.

BTW, we have a 12min video with Brandon showing us around the unit if anyone wants a look.

As a sonar user the integration part of the Control Surface really interests me. I hope they release a control only version that can work independantly of the audio interface, and also has a MCU mode.
1) Becuase when using Sonar, the control over ACT is awesome, and also having easy EQ control is a massive plus.
2) I could have the advantages when working with SOnar, but stick with my own audio interface and also work in other DAW programs as required by collaborators.

dang. another overpriced roland unit that will be no longer in production after a year and unsupported by its release date.

(sorry, working for a major music store for half a decade in the past has made me quite skeptical... esp about roland products...)

If it were PCI Express, I'd consider moving over to this. As of now even Firewire can't cope with 24/96 5.1 projects at a reasonable latency.
