Well, it's never cost of materials. It's scale. But I would be interested to see if they reevaluate the price.

Can't Jazz Mutant/Cycling74 drop the $3,000 price tag down to something more reasonable? I'm sure by now the price of multi-touch hardware has gone down to the point where they can offer a sub-$2,000 Lemur and still make a tidy profit.

Hell, if the iPod Touch can be bought for $230 I'm sure that the cost of the materials for JM is not as bad as it used to be.

I would be way more interested in a Lemur price-drop than new features.

Well, Kris, that's assuming you even want widgets in the first place. Check out the far-out interfaces for software like Reaktor. The whole point to me of having a display is, well, having a display, having it be really open-ended. But as I say, it's about tradeoffs. In some contexts, having these fixed widgets is an advantage, in others, it's not. Ironically, it really depends on how conventional your needs are. The widgets do a great job of taking what hardware does and extending it / making it more fluid. But if you want to re-conceive how your whole interface behaves, it just doesn't work.

I guess I don't understand how having useful controls pre-built for you is a drawback. What type of widgets are missing?
