Do you think mirroring the touch-tables projection would be helpful? If so, how would you guys go about about doing that?

@rhowaldt: That seems like a really interesting idea. I've been thinking about this a lot lately -- not that the audience really *needs* to see what you're doing, or that you need to impress them somehow, but that if you really found a perfect fusion of sound and visuals, you'd want to share the experience. They'd want to be part of it! (and, indeed, do when the BricK is on...) Pass the synesthesia!

@rhowaldt--

Verticalizing (yes, i might be making the word up, hehe) touch interfaces is an avenue Owen and I are starting to explore... There are a few considerations that make for interesting conversations and new approaches-- for example, software that harnesses tangible objects would need a flat surface like a table (ahem, gravity), unless they were able to stay up some other way... which would lead to interesting solutions like maganets maybe?

Secondly, unless you build a very large vertical touch surface, multiple people collaborating may get messy-- and once its large enough, is it still easily playable and accessible?

These are just a few considerations, however, i think it can be done, and in fact, Owen and I are looking into different possibilities of doing a touch wall...etc. Jeff Han and others (I think i remember one in Helsinki) have done some great work with touch walls, but I haven't seen much work done in terms of using it in a musical context-- would be interesting to explore.

Until then, perhaps it would benefit the audience if we split the video signal and projected a mirror image of our touch surface to strengthen the connection between Performer(s)/Brick Table + the audience.

Thanks for the encouraging feedback guys!

i was wondering: wouldn't it be better, for performance reasons, to have the table on it's side, with the visuals towards the audience?

even if you chose not to follow that suggestion, this is great. i want one as well. if they could make them for a 100 bucks or something that would rule :)

This is really great! I love the fact that it can use arbitrary graphics (unlike the Lemur), and uses direct touch (unlike the reactable). P.S. I want one!
