Having been published the old-fashioned way, I’m really interested to see what on-demand printing will make possible in publishing and content – and, particularly, what it will mean for Web entities like CDM. (We need a new term: Web Treeware?)

This is just a first experiment for us, but I’m interested not only for CDM and Lulu but what this sort of thing means for content makers in general. (You’ll see a lot of self-published sheet music on Lulu, for instance.) It could make new things possible in publishing.

    Well, we're advertising something that's *free* (PDF), and is itself 40 pages of content, which is free-licensed and not copyrighted (meaning you can actually sell the thing if you want). We make a few dollars on that, which goes into the budget for future content.

    And I'm genuinely interested in feedback on the way e-publishing is going — Lulu isn't perfect, so it's interesting to watch their deadlines and costs trending (and their competitor's).

    This was a big week for the site in putting together the first of a new monthly series and the first guide; I don't like just talking about what we're doing and expect we'll go back to more straight news next week.

    I'm not apologizing, but that's how it is.
