Can we cover less, but get some deeper information? That’s my goal for CDM this year at NAMM, the music manufacturers’ US trade show. There’s plenty of new stuff that comes out annually at NAMM. From CDM’s New York City nerve center, I’ll be honing in on the stuff about which I think you’ll care most.

I can’t be in Anaheim for the show. That’s no loss to you, because trade shows floors aren’t necessarily conducive to the press. The main reason I go is to get to hang out with people I might not otherwise see. If you are there and think there’s something CDM should be covering, do drop me a line, especially if you make something that’s liable to be lost in the shuffle of industry news.

But I have been able to land some advance information, so starting Thursday and on through early next week as I can share information, I have plenty I want to talk about, and not just what’s in the press releases.

It’s already common knowledge that you can expect new things from Ableton, Cycling ‘74, Native Instruments, and Roland, just for starters. Cycling ‘74 has already let slip that they’ll be showing their collaboration with Ableton, and Ableton for their part has scheduled a press conference.

I do expect some nice news items for people making music with computers. Do stay tuned right here for the inside track.

looking forward to know something more about Ableton-Cycling '74 joint venture (will it be a joint venture?)

if they announce Ableton 8, and still haven't fixed the 128-parameter-limit, i might have to go on a rampage

@poorsod: I can be sure to check on that. I'm interested in whether that's shipping along with some other features. I can at least tell you they are aware of that issue, and it is a hard one to solve; hopefully they've nailed it.

@(noou) There is indeed a collaboration between Ableton and Cycling '74 and you WILL see some results from it this week. I can say that without violating any confidence because a) the collaboration was announced ages ago and b) C74 says as much on their site! So more on that soon.

i agree, the one time i went to namm i found out more news by going to a computer than i did by actually being there. but i had a lot of fun nonetheless at the various parties and meeting people on the show floor.

I am so curious about the Ableton/C74 collabo and the Ableton/Serato collabo. They each have obvious implications but there are so many bright minds at these companies that I am really looking forward to seeing what they have come up with.

I hope ableton lets us scrub clips forward and backwards in the new version.

    I hope NI releases a new battery with a sequencer/audio recording/audio editing.

Hey Peter, can you swing by the Open Labs booth? They're at booth #5900. They're claiming SIX new products (which I doubt is really true). Very interested to see what they come up with though!

I will be there from Thurs to Sun and will take some images on anything interesting and report it back here. I am pretty sure I know what the Cycling74/Ableton thing is going to be and will be sure to make a report.
