This is hardware?!
I saw the ads for it and thought it was another "clever" software company advertisement making their plug-in GUIs look like hardware.

Hah.

Hmm, gonna give this one a skip until the price comes (way) down and it sees a few much-needed updates. Too bad about those interface hitches, as that kind of thing can make or break a unit like this. That being said, I love Arturia's software and I highly doubt they are going to ignore these concerns with the Origin.

Soft synth in a hardware box.... Isn't that was the Muse Reactors are supposed to be?

Origin looks and sounds great, but at 2500... You can buy a pretty decent modern modular analog synth or a small handful of other VA hardware synths.

I have an Origin and love it! Shop around to find a better price. It cost me $300 more than my Virus TI desktop, but sounds SO much better. It's also way beyond Arturia's other software products. To my ears, Origin sounds as good as an Andromeda, but with twice the available voices and a much more user-friendly sequencer. Arturia is working on a TI-style DAW interface that should be available by the end of 2009.

The reviewer for Electronic Musician got it right:

"Writing for EM, I've witnessed many evaluations of products based on whether they are evolutionary or revolutionary. With its innovative coupling of classic synthesis and contemporary musical-instrument technology and design, the Origin manages to satisfy both criteria easily. This is the first hardware synth I've wanted to buy in nearly a decade; need I say more?"

For the full review, see http://emusician.com/elecinstruments/arturia-origin-review/index.html

The Solaris sounds very promising and I love John Bowen's work, but it's a little too clean sounding to my ears. Do you know what I mean? The Origin does a better job of standing toe-to-toe with bona fide modern analog classics, such as the Andromeda, Moog Voyager, and Prophet 08 (all of which I've used and some of which I own).

Ever wished you could pack the sonic goodness and programming power of a soft synth into a hardware box?

Yes, it's called a computer.

Arturia will actually sell some units of the "Origin" if the price will fall at almost 600-700 euros. It doesn't worth more money IMO. Its just another VA and i don't believe that its better from Creamware's "hardware" synths...better check the Solaris...much more serious offer for many reasons...

although not even close to being modular, I highly recommend the arturia analog collection...mine came with a really beautiful little midi controller in white. Its so fun to use especially since all the knobs are pre mapped. i feel like im using a hardware synth! and at only 300 bucks...wow!
