Connecting Reaktor 5.8 with Konkreet Performer from Konkreet Labs on Vimeo.

Mapping control from one place (like an iPad) to another (Reaktor) is tough to describe, but easy to see. Watch as strange, spacey geometries control futuristic generative sounds and beats, and it all starts to make sense. And so, this hands-on video is a brilliant example of why we get excited about new control methods, here in the form of better OSC support in Reaktor 5.8. Konkreet Labs’ Konkreet Performer is an ideal candidate, eschewing traditional MIDI knobs for interfaces that delight and challenge the user.

And it’s little wonder these two wit fit together well. Konkreet Labs co-founder Gwydion ap Dafydd spearheaded the implementation of OSC in Reaktor 5.8, and gave us a tour of it as it was being released. Here, Konkreet Labs (not NI) explain how these tools fit together:

NI’s 5.8 update to Reaktor makes connecting OSC much faster and easier. Here we show how to quickly hook up Konkreet Performer to control the Newscool Reaktor ensemble, running as a VST plug-in in Ableton Live 8. Konkreet Performer is available through the iTunes store

Check out the video, and let us know what your favorite unusual control/sound combination may be – or what else you’d like to see.

Right now, Konkreet Performer is 50% off, celebrating Reaktor 5.8.

The drag and drop assignment method looks very straightforward. I know this subject has been mentioned numerous times on CDM, but the professional audio community should get together and move forward into OSC with some cohesion…as they must have done in the eighties when Midi was standardised.

Was hoping to pick this app up but looks like the 50% off is restricted to US only?
Here in Aus the iTunes store is showing the normal price even though the description says 50% off up to the 13th.

Looks like fun. I really must get myself an iPad one of these days.
