LittleGPTracker (lgpt) Port to PSP: Call for Donations
N0stromo tells us he is planning to port his “Piggy” LittleGPTracker (lgpt), the tracker currently on the Linux GamePark platform, to the Sony PSP. LGPT has the interface of littlesounddj, as known on the Game Boy, and can even drive MIDI (meaning this could be a great time to figure out MIDI output on the PSP). He’s asking for donations, and he’s already well on his way, meaning you have a chance to put him over the top – reach into your (ahem) Piggy Bank:
You’ll need to hack your PSP, of course, until Sony sees the light and allows arcane music downloads via its official store. But hacking isn’t so bad. We’ll keep you posted!
CDM Holiday Guide: Thanks for Answers; Ads Close Wednesday 11/26
Thanks to everyone for submitting responses for the Holiday Guide. You’ll be keeping me busy this week – nearly 200 fantastic responses were submitted, which given the depth and number of questions we asked I find pretty impressive!
If you’re interested in advertising in the guide, your ad will be exposed online in the main site feed for all of our online readers plus will get additional exposure in the online / downloadable / printable version that people will hang onto. We can send you details, but you need to contact us and ads do close end of day Wednesday New York time.
Saturday in NYC: Patching Circle Returns!
Saturday 11/22 at Eyebeam in Chelsea, it’s time for another “NYC Patching Circle.” Basic rules: if it involves patching — from Max to Pd, vvvv to Reaktor – it’s fair game. (I may even break the rules a bit and do a little Processing.) Hang out and absorb the communitas, learn from other New York-area patchers, watch the action, whatever. It’s communal making of stuff, like knitting, but with software.
NYCPatchingCircle @ Pd wiki (thanks to Hans-Christoph for making this happen)
See you there if you’re in the area. 540 W. 21st Street, (between 10th and 11th Avenues).
NPR Piece: Global Warming Makes the Ocean Louder
A really striking piece in NPR today, via Gina Blaber’s Twitter (thanks, Tim O’Reilly):
Humans Turning Up Volume In Oceans [NPR “Science Out of the Box”]
A new report shows the way in which sound travels through the ocean has been impacted by global warming. A growing community of artists are working in media like sound to address environmental challenges. But it seems the planet is making some “sound art” of its own. Curious to hear what people think of the report.
Free Tremolo Audio Unit for Mac, with the SuperCollider AU Wrapper
Cypod sends his simple but handy adjustable tremolo plug-in, which he’s made available free:
Tremolo Audio Unit [Cypod blog]
But that’s only half of the reason this is cool. He used the SuperColliderAU tool, which allows sonic effects built in the free, open-source audio coding language SuperCollder to become standard AU plug-ins. (He demonstrates it in Ableton Live.) Good stuff. So, is there an equivalent for Windows VST or even Linux LADSPA, with SuperCollider?
